EdConnect and the Alcoa Foundation have had a strong partnership for over ten years, but this year Alcoa announced further generous funding allowing us to expand the volunteer program into Western Victoria. The generous funding of the Alcoa Foundation will enable us to partner with five member schools in the Glenelg Shire over a 3 year period, supporting dozens of students at risk of educational disengagement. EdConnect’s Caitlin, VIC Geelong and Surf Coast Region Area Manager says “I am thrilled at the opportunity to lead this project (under the guidance of Karen Barden) and recently spent two days in the lovely town of Portland to get the venture underway. I first met with Anna Impey, Community Relations at Alcoa who is a wealth of knowledge in the area and connected me with some key contacts in the community to help support this exciting opportunity. I visited 5 local primary schools, 1 secondary school, met with members of the Portland Committee and narrowed in on the key schools we wish to partner with this year. We are delighted to partner with Portland Primary School as our first member school in the area, and hoping to announce some more shortly so that we can hit the ground running with recruitment in term 2. I look forward to keeping you updated on our Victoria expansion and hopefully sharing some new volunteer news shortly!”
