Safeguarding Children

No cost to EdConnect Volunteers.  Contact your Liaison Officer for your booking code.

Children have a right to protection from being hurt, from violence, abuse and neglect. No one likes to think of children being abused, but unfortunately child abuse is a reality. It is important that all those involved with children or young people are alert to the possibility of abuse and know what to do if they have concerns about a child’s safety or welfare.

EdConnect’s Safeguarding Children training has been developed by EdConnect with the specific aim to educate EdConnect volunteers about their obligations to safeguard children from harm. This manual will address what it means to safeguard children, signs and behaviours victims of abuse may display, what happens after a disclosure occurs, tips on how to manage a disclosure at the time it happens and what you need to do if you suspect it is happening to a child under your care, or if a child discloses to you they are being abused or at risk of harm. Contact details of support/counselling services are also included. After attending training, participants will feel confident regarding how to manage disclosures from children participating in EdConnect’s programs.
