Mrs Ruth Reid is the wife of former Governor, Professor Gordon Reid who was Governor of Western Australia from 1984 to 1989. Mrs Reid enjoys working in a voluntary capacity with a wide range of community organisations in Western Australia and became State Patron of SVP in 1997. She has been acknowledged for her work in the community with the following awards:
- Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering Award (2013)
- The Rotary Paul Harris Award
- Order of Australia (A.M.)
- U.W.A. Hon. Doc of Letters
- Citizen of the Year (2000) (Community Service)
Ruth states that “I am honoured to be involved with SVP as Parton in WA and will continue to watch its growth as it encourages more community members to help children develop to their full potential.”

AC AO(MIL) CVO MC (RTD)
Major General Jeffery was born in Wiluna, Western Australia in 1937 and educated at Kent Street High School and the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
He graduated into Infantry and served operationally in Malaya, Borneo, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Military Cross and the South Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
After command of all combat elements of the Army from platoon to division – including the Special Air Service Regiment – he retired in 1993 to assume the appointment of Governor of Western Australia, which he held for almost seven years.
His major interests during his tenure were in youth affairs, education, environment and the family.
On his retirement as Governor in 2000 he established in Perth, a not for profit strategic research institute – Future Directions International (FDI) – whose objective is to examine longer term issues facing Australia.
On 20 December 2000 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Technology by Curtin University.
On 11 August 2003 he was sworn in as the twenty-fourth Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, serving in that capacity until 5 September 2008. Upon his retirement as Governor-General, he accepted Chairmanship of FDI, Outcomes Australia and Soils for Life, along with patronages of a number of other not-for-profit organisations, including the School Volunteer Program.
He is the Australian Chairman of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust and has recently been appointed the Advocate for Soil Health by the Prime Minister. Major General Jeffery is a Companion of the Order of Logohu (PNG), a Knight of St John, a Citizen of Western Australia, a Paul Harris Fellow and an honorary life member of the Returned and Services League.
He and his wife Marlena have four children and ten grandchildren. General Jeffery enjoys golf, cricket, fishing, reading and music.

Graham Mabury has been presenter of 6PR’2 Nightline Program for the past 31 years. He says, “It’s been a great blessing to enjoy such a stay in an environment where you’re and optimist if you bring your lunch and no one buys you a weekly bus ticket”.
Graham pioneered rehabilitation courses for homeless young people in Perth and has received numerous awards for similar humanitarian work. These include the Medal of the Order of Australia. WA Citizen of the Year for community service, the Federation Medal, and Advance Australia Award for individual Achievement in the 2008 WA consumer Protection Awards 2013. He is a Fellow of Edith Cowan University.
In 1987 Graham was the inaugural Chairman of the Living Stone Foundation, which became Lifeline WA. Graham began his career in education as a Secondary Teacher becoming Head of the Music Department at a specialize music Secondary School. Using his skills as a teacher, Graham made the leap into media at the ABC as an Education Producer.
He has been a member of the pastoral team at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church for 32 years.
He has been married to Merle for 41 years and has twin sons, two beautiful daughters and five wonderful grandchildren.
